First round completed

The first round completed. The logs that sit on the ground were milled on one side only to provide a flat surface to build on and to get the rest of the beams up off the ground. These logs will hopefully last for a few years before rotting, and by then we'll have found a permanent site for it with a better foundation.

Sharpening the chain saw

Sharpening the chain saw back at the home place in the midst of firewood. The extension cord through the window is how we ran our one fluorescent light at night. We had a small inverter running off the RV battery in the van that we had brought for limited power tool use. The fluorescent light came with the trailer, and none of our other lighting solutions (Coleman lamp, kerosene lamp) were working well, so we ended up using the inverter mostly for lighting.

Carol straightening nails

Carol finally put the camera down long enough for me to get a picture of her. She's straightening the nails that we use to hold the slabbing rails onto the log. The slab has been cut, but is still sitting on the log.
