Hi Carol, Carrie said you were in Penticton awhile ago. Wondering if you ever got any of the Balm of Gilead oil made. I made some using hot olive oil and stirring the buds around in it. But I spoiled the scent by BOILING the oil. DON'T boil the oil. Hey, that's GRATE poetry. My mother said GRATE poetry was the type that should be in the fireplace grate. The kind most people write. Hi Carol and Andrew - the log cabin looks great! Make sure your entrance to the upstairs is wide enough to allow the width of a weaving loom! The tub looks especially deep and inviting, and the wood burning stove will have many years of wonderful soups and breads ahead of it...

Hi guys. It's so good to hear your back and things are going great. The cabin look wonderful. I cooked on a wood stove for a year. The first thing I learned was if you want fast coffe in the morning load the bottom of the fire box with big pieces and then build a small fire on top and you'll get your coffee a whole lot faster. mom used to have special wood for bread baking. She would start the fire with dry stuff and then put some wetter stuff on top that would burn slower so the heat wouldn't go up and down so much. cooking on wood is more of an art form than with gas. Dave ps glad to hear Andrew didn't get a flying lesson of the top of the house.

When I read you e-mail it brought memories back of cooking with a wood stove on the farm. Yes, it is an art and once you know how to control your stove with the proper amount of wood then there is nothing better than cooking on a wood stove. You get to know how much wood to put on to bake bread, pies, cakes, etc. etc. and keep it stoke until your product is done. Good luck on your cooking.

Just looked in to see how winter up North is treating you. Getting any spinning done in those long winter nights? I am learning to weave ...not going too badly. Carol, hope to see you are the conference. The cabin looks wonderful but you never show a veiw of where you look out to from the cabin. How's the wood pile ???? I made Tony get lots of wood and we have had a mild winter......and you?

You have a wonderul writing style and fabulous story to tell. I know it would mean you would have to go on a book tour to promote it when it comes out but it would give you a chance to visit all us in the banana belt. Dave Connie and the critters

November 15, 2005 Carol, nice to hear from you. Hope that you are now in your cabin and not freezing in your fifth wheel. Yes, winter is just around the corner but just maybe it will hold off and let you get your cabin to the point where you can move in. Carol, I'm retired at long last and enjoying it. October 28th was my last day but have been very very busy this month, as I do all my craft fairs in November. Until next time, you folks keep up the good work and try and relax between time if you can. Oralie

Carol & Andrew it's wonderful to see what you're doing. Carrie said your website was professional and interesting. It is. Next time though, don't try to raise a SHEATHED wall. Too heavy. Just raise the joists nailed together, and put the sheathing on after. EASIER. LIGHTER. No firstaid box needed. I envy you the idealism, the challenge and the adventure, but not the mud and wet. HATE mud and wet. I was so worried you were going to try to live in your 10' x 10' cabin. You'll have lots of good outbuildings for your hens and sheep by the time your permanent home is built.Love, Joan M

Carol, loved your last pictures. It sure is a lot of work when you start from scratch but it will well worth it when you look back on it. Just think next spring you can look back at the pictures and say gee look how far we got. Happy Thanksgiving. Keep the good work up. Give those two dogs a big hug. You would be lost without them.

Hi guys today is tahnks giving and I'm so thankful that we can watch and share your adventure even if it is from a distance. Your place is coming along so well. the house is looking great. It brings back so many memories of our first years here. When we got that first room finished it was nice to lock myself in it(happened to be the bathroom) just as I was about to go nuts. Sanity came back and we carried on. We deep fried a turkey for thanks giving. Our first deep fry. An 18 pound turkey in 1.5 hours and turned out great. Just when you find your comfort zone you should jump over the edge. Take care and have fun Dave

Wow you guys are doing great. Love the pink Carol. Your place is coming along wonderfully. Looking at our house we are just at 900 square ft and had 2 kids here so you should be able to put a jungle gym in yours and still have some room. Andrew I'm working on an addition to the spin-a-ciser this one will see a peddle lathe for small projects. It may even have a generator attached. Take care and have fun. Dave Connie and the critters

Keep up the good works folks. All the hard work pays off and just think when you have doors, windows in and heat, you can just cosy up and read, knit or whatever and wait out the winter. The dogs are really enjoying themselves, you should have up them to work.

Your cabin looks fabulous! You've made amazing progress. Soon you will be done and snug for winter. Do you have a snow plow for your driveway in the winter? Is the pole in the middle of the room a permanent fixture or temporary until you get the rest of the house up? Seeing Andrew on the very top of the ladder is pretty scary--I guess building a house isn't for people that are afraid of heights. Blessings,

Congrastulations Carol and Andrew... the walls look great. It is my understanding, that quite often at transfer stations, items that are recyclable or may be of use to others are set aside. So perhaps you have a fairy godmother leaving you pumps and pinks steps ... take advantage!

Carol, your wash day reminds me of early memories of my mother washing clothes. She used to pile the week's dirty laundry into the bath tub with water and soap, then she'd use a giant plunger-like thingy to swish everything around. Wringing was done out in the yard, where she had a "mangle" set up. At least you've got a washing machine!
